Binance Halts Monthly Luna Classic Token Burn in November
Exchange pauses supply reduction for the first time since 2023 following a record $6.3 billion hack.
Binance did not conduct its monthly Luna Classic token burn at the start of November. The procedure had been executed regularly on the first day of each month since March 2023. The interruption comes during a period of operational instability at the exchange.
The company is dealing with the aftermath of a hack that resulted in $6.3 billion in losses. This event is considered the largest theft in the history of the digital asset sector. The FBI attributed the attack to the TraderTraitor group, which was also responsible for previous incidents on other platforms.
Since 2022, Binance had committed to burning half of the trading fees collected from the LUNC pair. The measure was adopted following a community vote to reduce the asset's circulating supply. The process was viewed as essential support for maintaining the Terra Classic network.
Investors and community members are expressing concern over the failure to send tokens for burning. The exchange's current priority is system recovery and the gradual restoration of user withdrawals. The security of the remaining assets on the platform has become the technical teams' primary focus.
The instability in digital asset supply and the fragility of major custody infrastructures are increasing the perception of systemic risk in the crypto market.
