Investment group offers to settle part of the retailer's debt as American owners face pressure from the British government.

Retail chain Poundland is on the brink of insolvency and has received a new buyout proposal from the Xyra Group. The offer includes an immediate payment of 12.5 million pounds toward a total debt of 30 million. The remaining balance would be settled in installments.

The current owners, American firm Gordon Brothers, acquired the chain for 1 pound last year. They previously rejected a proposal from an Irish real estate group that aimed to preserve 12,000 jobs. The company states that the business remains vulnerable and unstable.

The British government, represented by Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, is pushing for a solution that protects employees. Gordon Brothers has committed to prioritizing offers that maintain stores and jobs. However, market analysts question the Xyra Group's financial capacity to complete the transaction.

The sale process is taking place under the supervision of consultancy firm AlixPartners after Gordon Brothers halted funding. The retail chain has filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators to buy time. A shortage of deliveries from suppliers has hampered the company's operational capacity.

The presence of an executive linked to artificial intelligence solutions on the Xyra Group board is seen as a point of credibility. The adoption of advanced technologies could optimize operational efficiency for companies undergoing restructuring and influence the attractiveness of distressed assets in the retail sector.
