Novo Nordisk Shares Rise as Wegovy Sales Beat Expectations
The pharmaceutical company's operating profit and revenue topped third-quarter estimates amid high global demand for the drug
Novo Nordisk shares rose 6% in early trading this Wednesday. The move follows the company's release of quarterly results that exceeded market expectations.
Revenue reached 79.2 billion Danish kroner in the third quarter. Adjusted operating profit hit 31.7 billion kroner, surpassing the 28.6 billion mark expected by analysts.
Performance was driven by sales of the Wegovy pill version, which totaled 5.4 billion kroner. This volume beat the forecast of 4.5 billion kroner for the period.
Given these figures, the pharmaceutical company revised its full-year projections. The company now expects revenue and operating profit growth to range between a 2% decline and a 2% increase at constant exchange rates.
The company maintains an 80% share of the US market despite growing competition from rivals like Eli Lilly. The firm's current focus is on developing CagriSema to treat obesity-related conditions.
The global pharmaceutical sector faces pressure to prove the efficacy of new treatments for conditions such as heart and kidney problems. Analysts remain cautious regarding the long-term sustainability of drug pricing.
