Jio Platforms led the largest stock market debut in Indian history this week. The telecommunications and digital services company raised $3.2 billion in its initial public offering. Shares surged 21 percent shortly after trading began in Mumbai.
This performance makes the company the second most valuable in the country. It trails only its parent company, Reliance Industries. Jio’s current market value has reached the $131.5 billion mark.
Jio’s growth trajectory was defined by an aggressive pricing strategy launched in 2016. The company offered free mobile data for months and transformed the competitive Indian market. Currently, its customer base exceeds 530 million users.
Jio’s ownership structure includes investments from global giants like Meta and Google. Mukesh Ambani’s conglomerate maintains a presence in various sectors of the Indian economy. This expansion has solidified the group in areas ranging from retail to streaming and energy.
The consolidation of large conglomerates in emerging markets may increase capital concentration and influence risk appetite for global assets. The strengthening of local technology firms tends to attract foreign capital flows, which impacts currency volatility and demand for digital assets like Bitcoin.
