Index falls to 165,528 points amid fiscal uncertainty and rising inflation forecasts from the Central Bank

The Ibovespa ended Tuesday's trading session down 1.42%. The main index of the Brazilian stock exchange reached 165,528.92 points. This marks the sixth consecutive day of losses in the local market.

The spot dollar closed at R$ 5.4872. This value represents a 0.79% increase and marks the highest level since the end of 2025. The exchange rate pressure reflects growing concerns regarding the domestic landscape.

The Central Bank's Focus Report raised projections for the 2026 and 2027 IPCA. Estimates for the Selic rate also increased. The market interprets that interest rates may remain at high levels for a longer period.

Stocks with the highest weight in the index recorded negative performance. Vale fell 2.85% following the drop in iron ore prices in China. Petrobras shares also closed lower with losses exceeding 3% for both common and preferred assets.

The banking sector followed the downward trend due to uncertainties regarding fiscal policy. Cogna led the day's losses with a 12.66% decline after financial institutions revised their recommendations.
