Financial markets are awaiting earnings reports from Alphabet and Microsoft after the closing bell. These two tech giants represent a major test for the recent recovery of stock indices.
The technical outlooks for the companies show significant divergence. Microsoft is trading near its all-time closing high. In contrast, Alphabet is trading near bear market territory with a 20% decline from its May peak.
Market makers estimate a 5.8% swing for Alphabet shares following the release. The expectation for Microsoft is a move of less than 5%. The projected movement for Alphabet is more than double the company's historical average reaction over the past two years.
Options volume reveals a gradual increase in demand for protective derivatives. Despite this, the ratio of call options remains higher than put options for both assets over the last year.
Recent data shows a significant flow of call option purchases for Alphabet. One investor bought about 18.5 million dollars in contracts expiring in January. This move reflects a specific bet on the future performance of the shares.
