Frontier Airlines reported a 71 percent increase in airfares during the third quarter. The average revenue per passenger rose from 39.74 dollars to 67.82 dollars during the period. The company is working to pass higher fuel costs on to consumers.

Total spending on jet fuel jumped 82 percent to reach 425 million dollars. This cost represents the company's largest operating expense after payroll. The airline's quarterly loss grew to 104 million dollars.

Despite higher prices, passenger volume grew 18 percent compared to the previous year. More than 9.8 million people used the airline's services during the quarter. Travel demand remains resilient even with the pass-through of these costs.

The rise in operating costs for transportation companies reflects persistent inflationary pressures in the American economy. This scenario of high costs and tight margins may increase risk aversion in the stock market and strengthen the search for store-of-value assets.
