Worsening combat in Yemen has forced 290,000 people to flee their homes since August. The United Nations humanitarian office reports that the situation is critical for thousands of pregnant women trapped in conflict zones.
Instability persists between government forces and Houthi rebels. The dispute has intensified in Taiz and coastal regions with thousands of confirmed deaths. Essential services have been cut off while food and fuel prices rise rapidly.
Tensions have expanded beyond Yemeni borders. The Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting drones in Riyadh and near cities such as Mecca and Medina. The Houthi group denies these actions against Saudi territory despite claiming responsibility for previous attacks on oil infrastructure.
The Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister discussed the scenario with representatives from the United States and Russia during the G20. The goal was to coordinate responses to the deteriorating regional security. Instability in energy production zones and global logistics routes may increase risk aversion in financial markets. This geopolitical uncertainty tends to strengthen the demand for safe-haven assets and pressure the dollar against emerging market currencies.
