The United States military has banned vehicles manufactured by the Chinese company BYD from entering Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. The restriction applies to private cars, taxis, and delivery vehicles attempting to access the site. Military officials classified the presence of these automobiles as an unacceptable risk that cannot be mitigated.

Kadena Air Base is one of the largest United States operational hubs in East Asia. The facility houses missile systems, fighter jets, and surveillance aircraft. The primary concern involves the collection of sensitive data through sensors, cameras, and GPS systems integrated into the vehicles.

This decision is part of a series of measures by Washington to restrict Chinese technologies deemed strategic. The Pentagon added BYD to a list of companies with alleged military ties in June of this year. The American government had previously adopted similar restrictions against devices from brands like Huawei and ZTE.

The environment of geopolitical tension between the two global powers creates uncertainty regarding capital flows and the continuity of technological partnerships. Restricting access to Chinese assets in critical facilities raises the risk premium in the technology and infrastructure sectors. This scenario may pressure the dollar as a store of value and influence the volatility of digital assets like Bitcoin during times of risk aversion.
