Sudan Humanitarian Crisis Worsens After Attacks on Infrastructure
The UN warns of basic service failures and resource shortages following systematic strikes on the country's power and fuel supplies.
The United Nations has condemned a series of airstrikes targeting power grids and fuel supplies in Sudan. The Human Rights Office recorded 25 such attacks across 11 Sudanese states over the past two weeks.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown stated that the targets appear to be deliberately chosen. The lack of electricity has paralyzed vital medical treatments, including dialysis sessions at hospitals near Khartoum that lack generators or solar power systems.
Families who fled their homes report the total loss of their belongings and an inability to purchase basic food. This extreme vulnerability directly affects women in labor and children who require immediate assistance.
The humanitarian aid plan for Sudan requires nearly 2.9 billion dollars. So far, only 47% of this amount has been raised, with less than two months left in the calendar year.
The escalation of conflict in strategic regions is increasing risk aversion in global markets. This geopolitical instability tends to strengthen the demand for safe-haven assets and pressure the volatility of the dollar and Bitcoin.
