A liquefied natural gas carrier, the Al Mayeda, was struck by unidentified objects while navigating through the Gulf. The Qatar Gas Transport Company stated that the incident occurred on Friday night. There were no injuries among the crew and no reports of environmental damage.
The official statement, published on the Qatar Stock Exchange, confirms that the vessel remains in safe and operational condition. The company is currently assessing the impact on the ship's hull. Energy transport in the region remains under constant monitoring.
This episode is part of a series of attacks on commercial vessels that began in February. Data from the International Maritime Organization shows that more than 120 ships have been hit since the start of the conflict. October saw the highest volume of attacks, with 29 confirmed occurrences.
Iran continues to close the Strait of Hormuz and issues warnings regarding circulation in the waterway. Tensions in the area rose after the United States imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in July. Instability along strategic energy routes increases the perception of global geopolitical risk and may pressure the volatility of the dollar and reserve assets like Bitcoin.
