North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in the Chinese border city of Dandong last Saturday. The trip comes one day before celebrations marking the anniversary of Chinese troops entering the Korean War.

The journey was made via the newly opened bridge over the Yalu River. The four-lane structure had been ready since 2014 but faced operational delays due to a lack of customs infrastructure on the North Korean side.

China serves as North Korea's largest trading partner. The neighboring country provides essential diplomatic and economic support to the Pyongyang government.

This meeting takes place one week after the official opening of the new connection route between the nations. The event reinforces logistical integration between the Asian giant and its nuclear-armed neighbor.

Recent history includes a visit by Kim to Beijing in September 2025 for Victory Day commemorations. On that occasion, he met with President Xi Jinping to discuss strategic issues.

Geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula often increase risk aversion in global markets. This scenario may put pressure on the dollar and influence Bitcoin volatility as a store of value during times of international uncertainty.
