Government corruption has become the primary concern for American voters ahead of the midterm elections. A national survey polled 1,000 people between October 14 and 18 to gauge the national mood.
Approximately 36% of respondents identified corruption as the most urgent problem facing the country. The cost of food and groceries ranked second with 34% of mentions. Protecting democracy and gas prices followed, each cited by 23% of participants.
The result reflects a trend observed in other recent studies regarding the political landscape. Data from various institutes show that the perception of government misconduct has reached levels not seen in decades.
The current political debate involves mutual accusations between the parties. Democrats are focusing on alleged financial gains by the presidential family. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is responding by creating a task force to combat fraud and leveling accusations against opponents.
Political instability and distrust in institutions tend to increase risk aversion in financial markets. This climate of uncertainty may pressure the dollar and influence the demand for reserve assets like Bitcoin.
