The Aave protocol protection system, known as Umbrella, recorded a $12.4 million reduction in its stablecoin reserves. The total amount allocated in USDC and USDT fell from $128.52 million to $116.09 million between September 17 and October 17.

These positions act as a safety net to absorb potential loan deficits on the Ethereum V3 network. Participants who lock their assets receive basic loan yields and extra rewards for accepting the risk of capital loss if the system needs to cover losses.

Despite the decline in total volume, the extra reward rates offered by the protocol saw a slight increase during the period. The additional rate for USDC rose by 0.16 percentage points while USDT grew by 0.17 percentage points.

The calculation for annualized rewards remained stable at approximately $1.99 million. The reduction in protection capital suggests that the increase in incentive rates was not enough to offset the outflow of deposits or changes in asset valuation.

Liquidity dynamics in decentralized finance protocols affect the perception of systemic risk and capital efficiency in crypto asset markets.
