The Federal Reserve and OCC are assessing vulnerabilities in the banking system following the largest crypto theft in history.

The Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency began reaching out to American banks this week. The goal is to identify potential vulnerabilities in financial institution systems following the cyberattack against the Binance exchange. The incident resulted in a loss of $6.3 billion.

Supervisors questioned institutions regarding unusual activity or service disruptions. The initiative shows that regulators view the theft as a potential risk to the traditional financial system. The connection between banks and the digital asset sector has become increasingly tight.

Cybersecurity teams at major American banks conducted internal diagnostics to assess their resilience against similar tactics. One of the primary concerns involves the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence models. This technology makes it easier for attackers to operate and complicates the constant updating of digital defenses.

the attack on Binance used sophisticated methods that included fake recruitment processes and malicious software. The attackers operated for five months before moving the assets. The company stated that it remains in contact with global authorities regarding the security breach that occurred at the end of October.
