UK Property Prices See Sharpest Monthly Drop in Over Three Years
Values fell 0.6% as high interest rates and persistent inflation weigh on the market.
Property prices in the United Kingdom fell by 0.6% in October. This marks the steepest monthly decline recorded in more than three years. The average value of a home in the country reached 296,285 pounds.
The result represents the fourth consecutive month of devaluation in the British real estate sector. Analysts had expected a slight increase of 0.1% for the period. Compared to the same month last year, prices saw a 1.2% contraction.
Housing demand is struggling due to the challenging economic environment. High borrowing costs and inflationary pressures are restricting household purchasing power. The conflict in the Middle East is contributing to rising fuel prices and keeping interest rates at restrictive levels.
Fixed-rate mortgages for two and five years remain near 6%. The British housing market has lost momentum and experts do not foresee a robust recovery before 2028. Buyer caution reflects the psychological impact of more expensive credit.
