Financial Market Projects Stagflation Risk for Brazil in 2027
Projections show 0.5% growth and 6.1% inflation amid fiscal uncertainty and high public debt.
Financial institutions and consultancies have revised their estimates for the Brazilian economy in 2027. The outlook points to stagflation, which is defined by the combination of near-zero growth and persistent price increases.
Itaú BBA estimates that the Gross Domestic Product will advance by only 0.5% while inflation could reach 6.1%. This level exceeds the official target ceiling and creates a challenging cycle for the country's monetary policy.
The current situation bears similarities to the crisis period between 2015 and 2016. Vulnerability is intensified by higher public debt and the heavy indebtedness of Brazilian families and companies.
The federal government has not yet detailed adjustment measures for public accounts to curb the rise of mandatory expenses. The Ministry of Finance remains focused on assessing scenarios without immediate discussions regarding spending cuts.
The lack of clarity regarding the fiscal trajectory puts pressure on financial assets and limits room for investment. Maintaining the Selic rate at high levels reflects the Central Bank's caution in the face of resilient inflation and instability in the National Treasury's accounts.
