Ukraine Seeks Starshield Access for Strikes Inside Russia
U.S. Secretary of State confirms Kiev's request for SpaceX defense technology is under official review

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Starshield system is currently unavailable to Ukraine. The government in Kiev has formally requested access to this military version of the satellite network to conduct deep-strike operations within Russian territory.
Rubio drew a clear distinction between the services offered by SpaceX. Starlink operates as a regulated commercial product while Starshield is classified as defense equipment tailored for military and government operations.
Launched in 2022, the Starshield system provides superior encryption levels for processing sensitive data. The technology is primarily used by U.S. defense agencies and strategic government partners.
The Ukrainian request remains in the stage of diplomatic and technical discussions among the parties involved. Kiev officials recently reported that restrictions on Starlink terminals hindered the use of drones on the battlefield during the conflict.
The Secretary of State also refuted the notion that recent Starlink service outages were deliberate. The U.S. government remains focused on analyzing the feasibility of expanding technological support to Ukraine without violating defense system usage guidelines.
