A limited ceasefire has taken effect in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky. The measure aims to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians who have lived without electricity, water, or gas for three years.
The initiative was coordinated by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. The primary goal is to open safe corridors for supplies to reach the population and to clear mines from roads to facilitate the departure of residents.
Oleshky is home to approximately 6,000 people, including 200 children. Many residents have reported extreme hunger, with some resorting to eating garden weeds to survive due to the lack of open stores and geographic isolation.
Geopolitical instability in conflict zones increases risk aversion in international markets and may pressure the volatility of the dollar against safe-haven currencies. Bitcoin tends to react to these events as a protective asset in scenarios of global uncertainty.
Residents express concern regarding the duration of the truce and their future after the evacuation. There are fears of potential reprisals by occupying forces and doubts about the freedom of movement for civilians who decide to leave their homes.
