Russia and Ukraine to Hold Talks in UAE This November

The Kremlin confirmed that trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are scheduled for November. The meeting will take place in Abu Dhabi and marks the first negotiation attempt since discussions stalled earlier this year.

This mediation effort follows a visit to St. Petersburg by US special envoy Steve Witkoff for meetings with President Vladimir Putin. The Russian government stated that the focus of the discussions should be long-term security rather than a temporary truce.

Expectations for concrete progress remain limited due to Russia's rigid demands regarding Ukrainian territory and the country's neutrality. The Kyiv government expressed a desire for swift dialogue as it faces logistical and intelligence challenges on the battlefield.

The geopolitical landscape is marked by shifting relations between Washington and Moscow. The US government has eased sanctions and begun purchasing Russian fuel while criticizing Ukrainian strikes against Russia's energy infrastructure.

Concurrent with the announcement of the talks, both countries conducted a prisoner exchange involving 270 individuals from each side. The released Russian soldiers were taken to Belarus before their final transport back to national territory.
