Riot police were deployed outside Poland's Constitutional Court in Warsaw. Prime Minister Donald Tusk's centralist government seeks to reverse years of political interference in the judicial system. The dispute escalated after judges elected by the current parliamentary majority suspended the court's president and vice president.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the site on Friday night. Three people were detained while attempting to breach the court complex. President Karol Nawrocki, an ally of the nationalist opposition, cut short an international trip to return home and monitor the standoff.

The conflict has roots in 2015 when the Law and Justice party took power. At the time, the party altered the court's composition to ensure support for ideological and sovereignist agendas. The current government claims the move is necessary to restore the rule of law and judicial independence.

The Constitutional Court has the power to block laws and determine the validity of regulations under the Constitution. Political instability among European Union members often generates volatility in regional markets. This scenario of institutional uncertainty may pressure the local currency and increase risk perception for European assets.
