Google Reaches Labor Agreement With UK Union
New labor laws grant union representatives access to 7,000 company employees
Google has signed an agreement with the Prospect union in the United Kingdom. The move grants access to approximately 7,000 employees across local operations including YouTube.
The pact follows the implementation of new British labor laws. These rules expand the right of unions to enter corporate environments to recruit members and hold internal meetings.
The artificial intelligence unit DeepMind is not included in this specific agreement. The company is seeking to negotiate a separate deal for that division with the Communication Workers Union.
Google stated that the commitment aims to meet recent legal requirements. The company emphasized that it maintains internal channels for dialogue with its employee representative groups.
The technology sector is facing a shift in labor relations dynamics. The Prospect union had already established a similar agreement with Meta which employs 5,000 people in the United Kingdom.
