Dropbox Acquires Tigris Data for $350 Million to Boost AI
The acquisition aims to strengthen storage infrastructure for developers building AI models and intelligent agents.
Dropbox has announced the acquisition of cloud technology firm Tigris Data for $350 million. This deal marks the company's largest investment to date and focuses on bolstering its infrastructure for artificial intelligence.
The primary goal of the transaction is to support the development of the DBX Agent Cloud. This new storage platform will be aimed at companies and developers building AI models and agents. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
DBX Agent Cloud will offer object storage as a standalone product. The system will allow companies to use Amazon S3-compatible tools to manage large volumes of data. Dropbox also intends to integrate features that help AI agents process documents, images, audio, and video.
Tigris Data was founded by former Uber engineers with expertise in storage infrastructure. The company's technology automatically positions data close to users and computing resources. This reduces access time and improves application performance.
Beyond infrastructure, Dropbox is expanding AI capabilities within its core product. Users will be able to connect content to tools like ChatGPT and Claude to perform automated tasks. More than 70,000 teams are already using the updated experience in select markets.
