AI Chip Stocks Stage Recovery After Global Sell-Off
Nvidia and AMD shares rebound following a crash as political hurdles and expansion costs keep the market on edge.
Semiconductor stocks staged a recovery on Friday following a sell-off that rattled markets across the United States and Asia. Nvidia rose 2.78% to $186.64 and AMD climbed to $449.04 after sharp losses in the previous session. Despite the momentary relief, both stocks remain far from the peaks they reached in October.
The global impact was severe as South Korea's KOSPI index lost 6% and the Taiwan market recorded its worst week in months. TSMC hit its daily trading limit during the period of instability. Taiwanese authorities even requested support from state-run banks to prop up local asset prices.
The political landscape in the United States added pressure to the tech sector. Voters rejected construction measures in 40 out of 41 local ballots which could hinder the expansion of data centers. Since these centers are the primary driver of demand for processors, development restrictions may delay orders and drive up operational costs.
Experts note that the sector was priced too optimistically before the correction. Rising borrowing costs make it harder to sustain aggressive investments in technical capacity without clear returns. The current question is whether this movement represents a mere technical adjustment or the bursting of a bubble fueled by unrealistic expectations.
