Cardano Proposes New Budget Model for 2027
Plan allows managing institutions to request funds directly from the ecosystem treasury
Cardano's 2027 budget proposal introduces the Cardano Ecosystem Budget Process, known as CEBP. The document suggests that three institutions take on curation roles across six distinct spending areas. Intersect, PRAGMA, and the Cardano Foundation would be the entities responsible for this new structure.
These organizations would be tasked with designing strategies and recommending budget limits for each sector. They would also define the methods for collecting and evaluating funding requests. The model allows these curators to submit their own funding requests for a network vote.
Delegated representatives, known as DReps, retain the final decision-making power over the distribution of funds and treasury withdrawals. The stated goal is to reduce the burden on voters facing a high volume of complex requests. Standardizing evaluations aims to provide technical support that is currently considered insufficient.
There is also a path called Open Contributions, which would allow direct access to DReps without going through a curator. However, the specific procedures and the amount allocated to this modality remain undefined in the current text. Community feedback remains open until the final submission of the concept, scheduled for November.
The implementation of this system in 2027 depends entirely on the approval of network stakeholders. Transparency regarding conflicts of interest will be a central point to ensure the integrity of the allocation process. The success of the initiative will define how decentralized governance manages its financial resources in the coming years.
