The Initia network suffered a breach on October 23 that emptied the USDC reserves held in the platform's asset bridge. Investigations indicate that the collateral balance dropped from approximately 1 million dollars to just 63 dollars during the incident. The attack prevented users from performing normal token withdrawals from the network.

Monitoring data revealed that 55 withdrawal attempts failed before the total suspension of operations. The attacker used a bot to submit repeated balance requests. The project team suspended the layer-one network and rollups shortly after identifying the drained reserves.

The attack exploited a flaw in the MoveVM script cache that allowed the bypass of security mechanisms. The attacker managed to withdraw real assets without the corresponding collateral deposit. Estimates indicate that about 3 million dollars in assets were drained before the systems were shut down.

The company responsible for analyzing the incident clarified that the issue occurred in the asset bridge and not in the stablecoin issuer's collateral. Native USDC remains with its guarantee structure intact on other networks. Initia is currently working on fixes to restore the platform's functionality.

Failures in asset bridges increase the perception of systemic risk in decentralized ecosystems and can pressure the liquidity of smaller protocols. Volatility in assets linked to specific bridges tends to rise when investors lose confidence in the custody of locked funds.
