Solana abruptly canceled the Solana Accelerate China event that was scheduled to take place in Shanghai last Friday. The interruption occurred shortly after the company promoted the opening of a new office in the city. Reports on social media noted the presence of police officers at the meeting site.
Solana Foundation President Lily Liu stated that the postponement was due to an unexpected surge in registrations. According to the executive, the number of interested attendees quadrupled overnight and exceeded the capacity limits set by local authorities. The organization chose to cancel the event to comply with current legal requirements.
This episode unfolds against a backdrop of strict Chinese restrictions on services related to digital assets. The country prohibits activities such as token-based fundraising, currency trading, and mining. In February, government agencies reinforced these bans, including those on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.
The incident in Shanghai is not an isolated case for the network in the country. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was also interrupted due to public safety concerns and venue overcrowding. The original schedule included a series of meetings in four Chinese cities, including Hangzhou and Beijing.
Regulatory instability in global markets increases the risk of operational disruption for digital asset projects. Difficulty in maintaining compliance within restrictive jurisdictions can drive volatility and impact the perception of network infrastructure security.
