DXY index hits a monthly low amid anticipation of Congressional shifts

The dollar is showing weakness in the international market this Monday. The DXY index, which tracks the American currency against a basket of developed market peers, fell 0.19% to reach its lowest level in a month at 101.68 points.

This movement comes as investors await the American legislative elections this Tuesday. The contest will define control of Congress for the second half of the presidential term. The outcome will determine whether the Democratic Party takes the House of Representatives or if the Republican Party maintains its current influence.

Beyond domestic politics, the market is monitoring interest rate decisions across several countries. Central banks in the United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, Sweden, and Brazil are expected to announce new rates this week. The combination of these events is driving a shift in global investor positioning.

Risk appetite increased as oil prices fell more than 4% due to expectations of diplomatic solutions in the Middle East. The euro rose 0.44% and the pound climbed 0.21% against the dollar. The yen, however, recorded a slight decline against the American currency.

Analysts note that uncertainty regarding the accuracy of election polls maintains a climate of caution. Recent history in American voting has shown discrepancies between opinion surveys and the final results tallied at the polls.
