The United States holds midterm elections this Tuesday to determine the makeup of all 435 seats in the House of Representatives. The vote also decides 35 of the 100 seats in the US Senate. The process takes place during a time of intense political mobilization between Democrats and Republicans.
Data from the University of Florida shows that more than 50 million voters cast their ballots early by last Sunday. This volume exceeds the figures recorded during the same period in the 2022 elections. The system includes both in-person voting and mail-in ballots.
Democratic voter engagement appears higher than Republican participation in current statistics. About 11 million Democrats have already voted compared to 8 million Republicans. The state of Texas stands out as a central battleground with a significant increase in turnout.
National polls indicate a lead for Democrats in voter preference. Tariff policies and the conflict involving Israel and Iran are weighing on the Republican Party's performance. Analysts associate these issues with the worsening cost-of-living crisis in the country.
The political instability generated by the election results could increase volatility in financial markets and alter risk perceptions regarding global assets and the dollar.
