United States Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has demanded that Israeli authorities prosecute and arrest those involved in the assault on photojournalist Heidi Levine. The attack occurred last Friday while she was covering the olive harvest in the occupied West Bank.
Huckabee described the episode as an act of terror committed by masked individuals. He argued that those responsible for the violence against the unarmed professional should face rigorous prison sentences. The American government has requested a full investigation into the case.
Heidi Levine was attacked by Israeli settlers in the Abu Falah region northeast of Ramallah. Witnesses reported that the group used bottles and slingshots during the assault. The journalist had her personal belongings stolen including her passport, phone, and work equipment.
The 64-year-old victim suffered serious injuries that included fractured ribs and vertebrae along with a severe finger injury that required surgery. Reports from other journalists present at the scene confirmed she was unable to stand up after the ten-minute beating.
Geopolitical instability in the Middle East tends to increase risk aversion in global markets. This scenario may pressure the dollar as a store of value and influence the volatility of digital assets like Bitcoin.
