The Sudanese army claimed to have eliminated dozens of Rapid Support Forces fighters during airstrikes in the city of Nyala. The operation targeted command centers and strategic positions in the capital of South Darfur state.
The Rapid Support Forces disputed the military's official account. The paramilitary group stated that a drone strike hit a busy cattle market and resulted in the deaths of 30 civilians. Among the fatalities, the group counted 17 women and five children.
The human rights group Emergency Lawyers corroborated the information regarding the market attack. The organization stated that the drone used in the action was linked to the Sudanese army. The clash in Nyala is part of a broader offensive to retake territories under paramilitary control.
Military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan recently declared the goal of recovering every inch of land occupied by rival forces. The civil war in the country, which began in 2023, has already caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people. The current scenario reflects an escalation of violence spreading across various regions, including mining areas.
