Jordan-Israel Border Becomes a Hub for Drone Drug Trafficking
Criminal networks in the Negev Desert are using advanced technology to bypass security, raising regional concerns.

The border between Israel and Jordan is facing a surge in illicit activities involving narcotics transport. Criminal networks based in the Negev Desert are using drones and helium balloons to move prohibited substances across the frontier.
This phenomenon is occurring in one of the most heavily monitored areas in the world. Jordanian authorities are expressing concern over the sophistication of these operations.
The regional drug landscape shifted after the fall of the Syrian government in late 2024. Syria was a hub for the production of Captagon, an amphetamine that reached Gulf markets through Jordan. With the new Syrian authorities cracking down on this trade, the flow from that direction has decreased.
Currently, the focus of Jordanian security forces has shifted to the border with Israel. Criminal groups are leveraging technological logistics to send hashish and methamphetamines from Israel into Jordanian territory. This situation creates instability in a zone that is strategic for Middle Eastern trade and diplomacy.
The rise in insecurity along land trade routes increases the geopolitical risk in the region.
